Donald Rhodes Bentley Sr

Donald Rhodes Bentley, Sr., 79, husband of the late Peggy Bentley, died Friday, December 9, 2011.
Born in Crawfordville, GA, he was the son of the late John Carey Bentley and Lillian Ferguson Bentley and was father of the late Lee Anna Bentley Mitchell. He was affectionately know as Paw Paw to his grandchildren as well as many children that he and his wife took care of. He was a member of East Athens Baptist Church .He retired from the University of Georgia with the Maintenance Department. Donald was an avid Georgia football fan, fisherman and hunter. " He was both a mentor and father figure to countless people. He lived a long, happy life, and died a happy man, on his own terms, in his own home, surrounded by family and friends even through his dying breath. May we all live with such honor, and die with such joy. Rest in Peace, Donald "Paw-Paw" Bentley. Though your memory will live for literally generations, you will be missed. Always."
Survivors include his children: Dorothy Mae Pettett of Brunswick, Donald Rhodes Bentley, Jr. of Danielsville, Lilly Bentley Summerall of Winterville; siblings: Arline Bentley of Norwood, Jack & Hazel Bentley of Sparta, Milo & Louise Bentley of White Planes; 15 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Monday, December 12, 2011 at 3PM at Lord & Stephens East Chapel with Rev. Crist Camden officiating. Burial will follow at Athens Memory Gardens.
Lord & Stephens East is in charge of arrangements.
