Alexandria, VA - Demetrios E. Dekazos, age 48, passed away Sunday, May 18, 2008 from an asymptomatic, acute heart attack.
Born in Chicago, IL he was a son of Dr. Elias and Mrs. Frieda Dekazos of Athens, GA.
A graduate of the George Washington University, Demetrios "Dee" Dekazos served for over 23 years with the U.S. Senate Sergeant of Arms. Dee oversaw many changes and improvements over the years, but most people will remember more about how he did his job than what he did. Dee was well liked and respected by many in the Senate community. He cultivated strong relationships, and if you needed something, you could count on Dee; he always had time to listen.
All who were familiar with Dee knew that he loved to laugh and make others laugh. He was the generous, calming voice and safe haven when you needed a sounding board and the jokester when you needed some fun. Dee will be sorely missed by his family, friends and colleagues.
Funeral services will be Friday, May 23, 2008, at 11:00 AM at St. Philothea Greek Orthodox
Church, 3761 Mars Hill Road, Watkinsville, GA 30677. Interment will be in Oconee Hill Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to return to St. Philothea Church afterwards for a luncheon meal.
