Athens, GA - Deborah Franklin Cunningham left this realm for the next one on
December 9, 2011. She had suffered from ALS for three years. She was at her home, surrounded by loving caregivers and loved ones.
Deborah grew up in Lawrenceville, GA. She graduated from Central Gwinnett High School. She was a member of the track team, as well as many clubs and organizations. She had lived in Athens for 32 years.
Deborah was a longtime and respected educator, having taught for 31 years in the Carrollton City and Jackson County School Systems. She earned advanced degrees from West Georgia College and Lincoln Memorial University.
She was the proud mother of two children, and a grandmother to a very loved granddaughter. Courtney Cunningham Adang (Mike), Julia Adang, of Athens, and Robert Franklin Cunningham, of Hull, were beloved immediate family.
She is also survived by her mother, Mildred Montgomery Franklin and brothers, Edwin Franklin and Jeff Franklin.
She was preceded in death by her brother Lanny Franklin and father Billy Franklin.
Deborah had a lifelong love of learning, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.
She was very close to her extended family, including her parents-in-law, Holmes and Gerry Cunningham of Newnan, GA.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.
A Celebration of Her Life will be on Thursday, December 15, 2011 at Athens Church of Christ from 7:30 until 9:00 PM.
