David Wayne Whitley

David Wayne Whitley, 67, husband of 30 years to Loraine Johnson Whitley, died Friday, January 11, 2019. Born in Athens, he was the son of the late Charles Alvin Whitley and Mary Frances Smith Whitley.  He was also preceded in death by his brother, Richard Whitley and step daughter, Janet Edmonson.  Wayne worked for the Oconee County Board of Education in the Maintenance Department. Survivors in addition to his wife include two children: Shane (Doris) Whitley of Carnesville, GA, James (Melanie) Butler of Gillsville; step children: Joyce Childers and Jackie (Brian) Collins both of Monroe, GA; brother: George Alvin Whitley of Canton, GA; sister: Lynn Cain of Danielsville; 11 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 15, 2018 at 2PM at Oconee Chapel, 2370 Hog Mountain Road, Watkinsville, GA. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 2:00 prior to the service at Oconee Chapel.
