David Scott Shaw August 6, 1973 – August 23, 2022
David Scott Shaw passed away August 23, 2022 after a sudden, brief battle with cancer.
David was born in Athens, Georgia to Judith Davis Shaw and James Scott Shaw. A lifelong Athenian, he graduated from Clarke Central High School, where he began many friendships that continue to this day. He went on to attend the University of Georgia. Larger than life in both stature and spirit, David’s booming laugh and joyful personality expanded to fill every room he was in. All those who knew him—whether from a single meeting or years of adventures—knew him as a kind and generous friend.
In 1996, he met his wife Jami Shaw. They were married in 1999 and he became a devoted father to Kellan Shaw in 2010. He worked in Athens with Partner Software and went on to become Executive Vice President of Futura Systems, Meridian Cooperative in Atlanta, GA. He was an insightful and compassionate leader who deeply cared for his colleagues and employees. Outside of the office, David was an avid gamer – leading dungeons and dragons players on fantastical quests over many decades. In recent years, he began to pass on his passion for gaming to the next generation, leading his son and his friends in role playing games. David will be remembered for his love for animals, his fantastic imagination, and his ability to bring out the best in everyone around him.
He is survived by his wife, Jami Samantha Shaw; his son, Kellan James Shaw; his mother, Dr. Judith Davis Shaw; his father and step-mother James Scott Shaw and Beth Bowen Shaw; his sister, Christine Octavia Shaw; and countless friends who will carry on his memory and spirit for years to come.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to David’s favorite charities: The Sparrow’s Nest, Athens Canine Rescue, and Books for Keeps.
A celebration of his life will be planned for a date later in the fall.
Lord and Stephens, East is in charge of arrangements.
