Hull, GA - David Sykes Kellar, 72, died September 15, 2013.
Born January 25, 1941, he was the son of the late William Norman Kellar and Lois Elizabeth Sykes Kellar and was preceded in death by his brother, William (Bill) Norman Kellar, Jr.
David was a 1959 graduate of Madison County High School. He attended West Georgia College for 2 years where he played tennis and basketball. He transferred to University of Georgia, receiving his Bachelor of Science in December, 1965. David retired in 1996 following a 30 year teaching career including Madison County Middle School, Madison County High School and Hart County High School. He coached basketball, baseball, football and track at Hart County and football at Madison County. He was a member of John Jones Masonic Lodge #348 in Danielsville, a member of the Madison County Retired Teachers Association and Georgia Association of Educators. David was a devoted husband and a loving father and grandfather. He was a beloved teacher and friend and had a positive impact on the lives of everyone he met.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Melba Yarbrough Kellar; son, Chris and his wife Clare of Suwanee; son Matt and his wife Bobbi of Colbert; sister, Betsy Barrow of High Point, NC; sister in law, Faye Kellar of Watkinsville; grandchildren, Shannon, Adam, and Megan of Suwanee and Emma and Ava of Colbert; several aunts, nephews, nieces and cousins.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Hull Baptist Church with Rev. Randy Crowe officiating. Interment will be private.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
