David Lane Hancock, age 61, passed away on December 9, 2015. He was born in Athens, Georgia on November 19, 1954 and was the son of the late Charles Robert "Red" Hancock and the late Jean Thompson Hancock, both of Barrow County.
David attended both Athens High and Cedar Shoals High School. He graduated with honors in the first graduation class of Cedar Shoals High School in 1973. He went on to attend the University of Georgia where he earned a BBA and MBA. After graduation from UGA, .David moved to Orlando where he pursued a career as financial consultant with Martin Marietta and later moved to Atlanta to work at Lockheed.
After the death of his father in 2008, David returned to Winterville to care for his mother. He was a loving and devoted son. David was a walking encyclopedia. He knew something about everything and was great at trivia. He enjoyed a good conversation, he never met a stranger and he had a quirky sense of humor. David was a train and food enthusiast. He enjoyed everything about trains including the signal patterns and taking pictures of trains, depots and signal lights. He also enjoyed all foods and trying new and different recipes.
David is survived by his sister, Teresa Hancock Cumuze and her husband Mike. He is survived by his nieces Kelli Barentine (Dan) and Kristen Feutral (Mike) and nephew Mick Cumuze (Sarah). He also leaves behind 1 great niece and 3 great nephews, an aunt and cousins. Last but not least, he leaves behind his beloved cat, Punkin.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, December 28 at Winterville United Methodist Church at 4:30 PM.
The family requests that memorial donations be made in his name to Winterville United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 30, Winterville, GA. Or to The United Methodist Children's Home, 500 S. Colombia Dr., Decatur, GA 30030 in Memory of David Lane Hancock.
