David Fisher was a storyteller. Born in Kansas, educated in Chicago and Atlanta, he signed WGTV onto the air in 1960. He was a pioneer in public television, but what he loved was the craft - as a writer, director and producer. He loved language and a good debate. He was an actor who had a penchant for an excellent scotch and reading great poets. Mostly he loved his family, fiercely and gently, fully and well. He is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy Carter, his children, Jessica Fisher-Willson (Harvey), Sarah Fisher-Brady (Mandy) and Joseph Fisher and Nancy's children, Steve Carter (Kelly), Rob Carter (Susan) and Laura Carter. He was exceedingly fond of the Carter grandchildren, Plummy and Lillian. He is also survived by his dear siblings Joe Fisher, Doug Mauck and Sue Wichman and their families.
A celebration of his life will be held at St. Gregory the Great Episcopal Church in Athens Georgia on September 12, 2015, at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Gregory's, or a charity that promotes justice, peace, and the dignity of every being.
