David Kenneth "Ken" Edwards

Ken Edwards, 64, of Athens passed away following a lengthy illness on December 20, 2015 at Athens Regional Medical Center. Ken was a devoted husband to Theresa "Rita" Edwards and loving father and grandfather. He delighted in his family and in his many close friends.
During a 36-year career in law enforcement, Ken served first the City of Athens' and then Athens Clarke County's Police Department. He was wounded in the line of duty and honorably retired.
He was predeceased by his parents Emory Hayes Edwards and Dorothy Marie Floyd Edwards and by son John David Edwards.
Survivors in addition to his wife Rita are sons: Ronald "Ronnie" Hayes Edwards (Jeri), Michael Burt Edwards (Lisa), Steven Douglas Edwards (Crystal). Other survivors are: seven grandchildren, sister Susan Edwards Stone (Richard), nieces and nephews as well as a grand niece and grandnephew.
Visitation will be Tuesday, December 22, 2015, from 6-8 p.m. at Lord & Stephens East. A memorial service in celebration of Ken's life will be held at East Athens Baptist Church, 4325 Lexington Road, on Wednesday, December 23, 2015, at 2 p.m.
