On May 25, 2016, Davey Lee DeRamus, age 85, went home to be with his Lord and Savior.
A native of Tuskegee, AL, he was the oldest son of the late Lucille Biven and Joe Wilson DeRamus. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Bob, Don and Jim.
Mr. DeRamus graduated high school from Union Springs, AL and then moved to Troy, AL where he earned his B.S. and Master's Degrees from Troy University. He honorably served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War from 1950-54. After teaching public school in Alabama and Georgia, Mr. DeRamus moved to Oconee County in 1962 and continued his career with the Clarke County School District Administrative Offices. He retired in 1992 as the Director of Accounting Services.
Mr. DeRamus was a member of the Georgia Retired Teachers Association. He was an active member at Mars Hill Baptist Church for fifty-three years where he served in many capacities including, Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, Assistant Treasurer, Trustee, Search Committee and Personnel Committee, and Disaster Team. He was named Deacon Emeritus this year.
Funeral services will be Saturday, May 28, 2016 at 11:00AM at the chapel of Lord and Stephens, WEST with Dr. Charles Jones and Rev. Sean Nix officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Pat Norris DeRamus; three children, Len (Marie) DeRamus of Watkinsville, GA, Sharon (Lane) Wade of Alma, GA, Michelle (David) Eades of Bogart, GA; brothers, Billy Joe (Linda) DeRamus of Troy, AL; eleven grandchildren, Kimberly, Joshua, Bryan and Adrienne, Bradley and Alynda, Brandon, Briana, Brooklyn, Parker and Shelby, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Bryan Wade, Bradley Wade, Brandon Wade, Josh DeRamus, Parker Eades and Heath DeRamus.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Golden Boys Sunday School Class.
The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
Flowers are optional. Memorials may be made to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation.
Lord and Stephens, WEST, is in charge of arrangements.
