Darlene M. Tilton died Tuesday, at her home in Colbert after a long illness. She was 62. A native of Savannah, GA, Darlene earned her BS in Biology at Armstrong State. Upon moving to North East Georgia, she started a sheep farm and raised her three sons while also earning her BS in Nursing from The Medical College of Georgia. She began her medical career at Athens Regional in December of 1990, working in the lab. Her nursing career began in 1995 where she became a 20 yr veteran of the Emergency Room, and most recently the Transfer Admissions Office. She was a strong advocate for her patients, beloved by coworkers, and a protector and caregiver for all living things. Darlene is survived by her husband of 39 years, Paul, and her three sons: Oliver (Lori), Anthony (Erin), and Alexander (Rachel). She has two dear grandchildren, Cora and Oliver, Jr. , six siblings, and seventeen nephews and nieces. There will be a memorial service this Friday (May 6th, 2016) at the Lord & Stephens funeral home on Hwy 78 in East Athens at 6:00pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in honor of Darlene to either the Nature Conservancy or Bridgeway Hospice.
