Watkinsville - Darlene Ropp of Watkinsville, Ga. passed away on October 23, 2006 at St. Maryís Hospice House in Athens, Ga. Viewing will be held at Lord and Stephens Funeral Home, West Chapel on Tuesday, October 24 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held at Watkinsville First Baptist Church on Wednesday, October 25 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be at Oconee Memorial Park in Watkinsville.
Born Darlene Mae Gunden on May 4, 1933 in Pigeon, Michigan, Mrs. Ropp spent her early years in Michigan enjoying close relationships with her many cousins and church friends. She married William F. Ropp of Millersburg, Indiana on October 9, 1955 at Prairie Street Mennonite Church in Elkhart, Indiana. A devoted wife for 51 years, Mrs. Ropp was a loving mother of three and grandmother of nine. She was a homemaker and dedicated follower of Jesus Christ and active member of Belmont Mennonite Church in Elkhart and Watkinsville First Baptist Church. She is remembered for her kindness, loyalty, and hospitality.
Mrs. Ropp was preceded in death by her parents: William and Naomi (Greiser) Gunden; her brother, Marlin, and her sister, Donna Belle Holdeman. She is survived by her husband, Bill Ropp, of Watkinsville; her children: Brent and Linda Ropp of Orlando, Florida; Dean and Cherie Ropp of Cumming, Georgia; and Gayle Vice of Watkinsville; her grandchildren: Rachel, Jennifer, and Michael Ropp of Orlando; William, Rebekah and Samuel Ropp of Cumming; and Elizabeth, Andrew, and Nathan Vice of Watkinsville; her brother, William Gunden of Harrison, Arkansas and her sister, Treva Ritthaler of Groveland, Illinois.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Watkinsville First Baptist Church Building Fund, 1610 Simontn Bridge Road, Watkinsville, GA 30677.
