Danny Ray Bridges, 80, died March 16, 2010, at his residence in Hull, Georgia. A service celebrating his life will be held on Friday at 2:00 PM at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. The body will lie in state at the church beginning at 12:30 PM.
Born on May 26, 1929 in Turner County, Georgia, Ray graduated from Ashburn High School and served in the U.S. Navy. After his military service, Ray married the love of his life, Margaret Owen, on August 6, 1950. Ray and Margaret raised three sons. They moved to the Athens area in 2005 to be near their beloved sons and grandsons.
Ray spent most of his working career as an insurance agent. He then pursued his cherished work as golf course manager in Sylvester, Georgia. An avid golfer, vegetable gardener, and computer enthusiast, Ray was also a Mason and Shriner. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and sang in the choir.
Ray is survived by his beloved wife of sixty years, Margaret; his son John R. Bridges, and daughter-in-law- Jane; his son, Rikard L. Bridges, and daughter-in-law, Judy; his son, Joseph E. Bridges, and daughter-in-law, Peggy; and his grandsons, Blake L. Bridges, J. Daniel Bridges, Benjamin T. Bridges, and Ben's wife Christina.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, 2227 Diamond-Hill Road, Hull, Georgia 30646.
