Daniel Earl McMurray

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Daniel Earl McMurray on February 2nd, 2023.  Danny, as he was known by friends and family, was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to the late Walter Earl and Ella Mae (Militzer) McMurray.  Danny graduated from Slippery Rock University with a degree in Education. However, teaching in the traditional sense was not to be his career. It was a childhood fascination with locomotives that would guide his path.  Danny was employed by Norfolk Southern  as Trainmaster of the Piedmont Division until his retirement after more than 40 years on the job. To those that knew him at the railroad, he was Mr. Mac - teacher, counselor, mediator, and friend.  A man of strength and character, Danny was the first to offer a hand to those in need. Beloved Son, Husband, Father, Grandfather and Brother, nothing brought him more happiness than when he was surrounded by those he loved most.

Danny is survived by his wife of 54 years, Grace Luella McMurray, who was his childhood sweetheart and love of his life. He also leaves behind daughters: Erin (Simon) Young, Maggie (Matt) Gilstrap; siblings: David (Janet) McMurray, Richard (Gina) McMurray, Patti (Mike) Marso and three grandchildren: Madden and Graham Young and Claire Gilstrap.  A private memorial service will be held at a later date near the ocean, a place where the family is most at peace.
