Winterville - Dan W. Shealy Sr., Ed.D, 76, died July 10, 2009.
A native of Spartanburg, S.C., he was a son of the late Jessie and Annie Belle Holliday Shealy. He was also preceded in death by a son, Danny Shealy Jr., two brothers and three sisters.
Mr. Shealy received his A.B. in business administration from Wofford College in Spartanburg, S.C. and his M.A. in management and Ed.D. in Higher Education from the University of Georgia.
He served in the United States Army as a training officer and was honorably discharged with the rank of Captain. He was an educator at Athens Area Vocational and University of Georgia College of Business. Mr. Shealy was a consultant to the University of Georgia Institute of Higher Education and to State and Federal Government in the area of computer technology and systems design. He retired from the Board of Regents, University System of Georgia as Director of Academic Administration Systems.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 12, 2009, at the chapel of Lord and Stephens, EAST, with the Rev. James Albritton officiating. Interment will be in Winterville Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12 p.m. until service time. They prefer no visitors at the home.
Survivors include his wife, Patsy Shealy; two daughters, Julia Mize of Athens and Suzanne Shealy of Charleston, S.C.; son Richard Shealy of Avon Park, Fla.; stepdaughter Larissa Lastinger of Athens; stepson Jason Lastinger of Dawsonville; sister Louise Pertain of Duluth; 13 grandchildren; 19 great- grandchildren.
