Dale E. Holt

Dale E. Holt died Wednesday, April 25, 2012. He was born December 29, 1938 in Macon, GA and was the son of the late Mattie C. and Ernest L. Holt. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Holt Williams and his brother Donald E. Holt.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Lucy L. Holt and his sons and their families: Nathan (Chandra) Holt of Athens, Russell (Kelly) Holt of Watkinsville, and Bradley (Terri) Holt of Bogart. His beloved grandchildren are Margaret Anna Holt, Russell William Holt, Jr., Melissa Avery Holt, Emmeline Kathryn Holt, Garrett Bradley Holt and Lucy Morgan Holt. Also surviving is his brother, William C. (Beth) Holt of Augusta, his sister-in-law, Etta L. (Larry) Young of Winston-Salem, NC and his brother-in-law, Tom D. (Sandra) Long of Westport, CT and many nieces and nephews.
Dale graduated from Southern Tech in 1960 and served in the U.S. Army from 1961-1963. He retired from Veratec/International Paper Co. in 1994 after 22 years of service.
Dale was passionate about politics and college football, particularly the Georgia Bulldogs. He enjoyed genealogy research and was constantly searching for information on his computers.
His favorite past time in retirement was doting on his six grandchildren. He loved being a grandfather and always said it was the best job he ever had.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 28, 2012 at 11AM at Lord & Stephens West Chapel. Burial will follow at Oconee Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 Friday, April 27, 2012 at the funeral home.
