Leslie Dale Allen, 62, of Winterville, died on Tuesday, August 4, 2020.
Born in Eatonton to the late Leslie Albert Allen and Janelle Ellis Allen Dalton, Dale served his country in the U.S. Army as a Military Police Officer. He later served his local community as Deputy Sheriff and more recently as Chief Probation Officer for Athens-Clarke County. Dale was incredibly passionate about his work. He was known for his belief that all people should be treated with dignity and respect, regardless of their background. Dale was honored many times with awards for his criminal justice reform efforts.
Along with his father and mother, Dale was preceded in death by his stepfather, Billy Joe Dalton, Sr. Dale is survived by his wife, Kim Fulghum-Allen; son, Joshua Allen; siblings Billy Joe (Lynn) Dalton, Jr. and Renee (John) Peterson; and best friends Michael Troyanski, Jay Johnson, and T.J. BeMent.
Due to coronavirus restrictions, a memorial procession will be held on Monday, August 10, 2020. The procession will be leaving Lord and Stephens East Chapel at 1:30 and follow the following route:
Eastbound on Lexington Road into downtown Athens
Right onto Thomas Street
Left onto Washington Street
Right on College Avenue
Right onto North Avenue
Right onto Bray Street at Athens-Clarke County Probation Services.
Friends are encouraged to show their respect to the family by lining the procession route that will pass by the Athens-Clarke County Police Department, Jail, Courthouse and City Hall. A remembrance event will be scheduled for a later time.
