Cynthia Harris Thurmond, Athens, died Tuesday, October 14, after a lengthy illness.
Cynthia was born April 2, 1941, in Lockhart, Texas, to Alexander Woodson and Louise Norman Harris. She moved to Athens as a child. Cynthia graduated from Athens High School and attended Wesleyan College. Cynthia devoted her life to raising her daughter and son. After they were grown, she was employed at Athens Regional Medical Center until her retirement. Cynthia was an avid fan of college football and loved her home state of Texas.
Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and David Weisenbach; son and daughter-in-law, David (Woody) and Angie Thurmond; grandsons, William and Alexander Weisenbach; granddaughters, Madison Thurmond, Marquanne Davey, Cindy Thurmond and Adrianna Speed; great-grandchildren, McKinley Davey, Lennon and Luciana Speed; brother, Roger Norman Harris, sister-in-law, Jean Harris; nephew and niece, Bryan and Stephanie Harris.
Cynthia was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Athens. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, October 21at First Presbyterian. A reception will follow the service. Dr. John L. Kipp and the Reverend Alex Stephens will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
