Cynthia Clyatt Ferguson, age 81, peacefully ascended the stairway to heaven on July 27, 2024, following several years of illness. She was born on November 13, 1942, in West Palm Beach, FL, the daughter of the late Lamar and Agnes Clyatt of Albany, GA and was raised in Baconton and Albany, GA. She graduated from Albany High School and attended Shorter College where she met and married her loving husband, Bruce, in 1962. In 1965, Cynthia and Bruce moved to the Athens area and have resided there since. Cynthia was primarily a stay-at-home mom for her two boys but held various part time positions as a preschool teacher at Tuckston Kindergarten, a communications specialist with UGA Cooperative Extension Service, and as a customer service representative with H & R Block prior to her retirement in 2007. Cynthia also served in PTA and was secretary of the Cedar Shoals Touchdown Club and enjoyed her many years of dancing aerobics at the YWCO. She was a member of Milledge Avenue Baptist Church where she served with the flower committee and VBS. Cynthia was an avid Georgia Bulldog fan, attending games with Bruce and friends all around the country. In retirement Cynthia and Bruce travelled extensively in the US and internationally on river cruises and adventure trips visiting 45 countries on 6 continents.
Cynthia was a loving wife, mother, grand and great-grandmother. She will best be remembered for the loving home she provided for her family. Cynthia loved to entertain and often had family and friends to the house for holidays, special occasions, or just for fun and she enjoyed celebrating the holidays with seasonal decorations and flowers.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her older sister Angela Fausett (Jim). Survivors in addition to her husband, include son Bruce Jr (Robin), their son Cole (Rayna) and their children Leland and Reagan; and son Brian (Kimberly), their children Allie and Charlie; a niece Cecily (Johnny) Merchant and nephew Joe Fausett (Eryn).
The family would like to thank the personnel of The Grove Senior Living and Agape Hospice Care for the kind and loving care given Cynthia during her last years.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Tuesday, July 30 at Milledge Avenue Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends at the church for one hour prior to the service. A private family burial service will follow at Oconee Hill Cemetery.
