Curtis Lee Johnson, Jr., 87, of Athens, GA, died Tuesday, December 13, 2016. A native of Cottondale, FL, he was the son of the late Curtis Lee Johnson, Sr. and Laura Pauline Applewhite Johnson. Curtis was a successful business man for the past 50 years in the rubber, tire, bottling and packaging industries. He was a pilot in the US Army and continued to serve on active duty in addition to teaching ROTC in colleges and other posts, until he retired as Full Colonel in 1989. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Watkinsville, GA. Survivors include his wife, Margot Northrop Johnson; children: Gregg Alan Johnson, Grant Matthew (LeeAnn) Johnson, Lisa Johnson (Eli) Alford and Sandra Johnson (Kurt) Wewers; grandchildren; Rachael Johnson, Rebekah Johnson, Sarah Smith, Emily Ochoa, Hannah Binkley, Kathryn Johnson, Matthew Johnson, David Johnson and Stephanie Johnson and eleven great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Monday, December 19, 2016 at 2PM at Lord & Stephens East Chapel with the family receiving friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to a local Humane Society or the Charity of Choice.
