Athens - Constance E. Mercer, 98, died November 16, 2008.
Born in Flat Bush, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Eugene Franklin and Evadana Bell Whiand File and was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, T. Homer Mercer in 2000.
Mrs. Mercer was a longtime resident of Tampa, Fla. and has made her home in Athens since 1997, when she moved with her husband to be with family. Since 2002, she was a resident of Iris Place. While in Tampa, she raised Miniature Schnauzers. She was President of Florida West Coast Miniature Schnauzer Club and a member of American Miniature Schnauzer Club. Mrs. Mercer was an avid motorcycle and horseback rider. She was a member of Tampa Bay Presbyterian Church, a member of Bible Study Fellowship and involved in Jail Ministry for several years.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, November 19, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Oconee Presbyterian Church with Rev. Pam Driesel, Dr. James Saxon and Dr. Tim McKeown officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Thomas Mercer, Stephen Mercer, Matthew Mercer, Joseph Moore, Robert E. Kelley, MD and Barry Johnson.
Survivors include her sons, Thomas George Mercer of Williston, Fla. and Terry Lee Mercer of Athens; grandchildren, Mary Lynn Mercer, Thomas Homer Mercer II, Stephen Joseph Mercer, Mary Julia Constance Mercer and Matthew Robert Mercer; and great-granddaughter, Abigail Elizabeth Mercer.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m.
