Cokey Elder

Courtney "Cokey" Mathews Elder, Sr., 69, died September 19, 2015 at St. Mary's Hospice House after a lengthy illness.
Mr. Elder was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was born in Watkinsville, Georgia on February 25, 1946. He was a son of the late Robert Daniel "Jack" Elder, Sr. and Elizabeth Mathews Elder. Mr. Elder was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert Daniel (Dan) Elder, Jr. and John Calvin Elder.
Mr. Elder was a 1964 graduate of Oconee County High School and a member of Hebron Christian Church. He enjoyed cooking, spending time with his family, giving tours of his farm and talking politics. Mr. Elder was self-employed his entire life in various businesses. After retirement, he was famous for his smoked BBQ and catering skills.
Mr. Elder was a friend to many and over the years developed a special relationship with his Amish friends in Montgomery, Indiana who he would frequently visit.
A celebration of Cokey's life will be Sunday, September 20, 2015 at 2:00 PM at the family farm, 1193 Twin Oaks Trail, Watkinsville followed by a graveside service at 4:00 PM at Elder Cemetery, Hwy 15 South, Watkinsville, GA 30677.
Survivors include his wife of forty-nine years, Carol Michael Elder; son, Courtney Mathews "Matt" Elder, Jr. and his children, Krista Lynn Elder, Hallie Mary Elder and Courtney Mathews Elder, III; son Michael Ashley (Kelli) Elder and their children, Michael Ashley Elder, II, Kenneth Lee Elder, John David Elder and Thomas Noble Elder; sisters, Mary Elder Harness, Ann Elder Evans and Flo Elder Wilkes; numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Elder Cemetery Fund, c/o Doyle Elder, 4180 Greensboro Hwy, Watkinsville, GA 30677.
Lord and Stephens, WEST, is in charge of arrangements.
