Clyde Carter Winn, 80, of Watkinsville, passed away Friday, October 7th, at his home with his beloved wife of 62 years by his side after a long struggle with his health.

Clyde was born in Lesslie, South Carolina at his home on April 18, 1936. He was raised on a farm and loved to stay busy all of the time. Clyde was a great handyman and could build and fix anything. There were many hobbies he loved especially working outside in the yard and garage. He spent much of his time restoring old cars. One of Clyde's favorite hobbies was fishing, especially fly-fishing. He also enjoyed photography and fixing old clocks.

He began and ended his working career with the same job, driving a school bus. First, as a teenager in Rock Hill, SC and then for Athens-Clarke County Schools after his retirement from retail business. In between he was a manager of F. W. Woolworth Stores who he retired with. He was a member of Maxey Fraternity (Brotherhood) at the University of South Carolina and received his Associate of Business Management from Northeast Alabama Community College. Clyde was an army reservist and was active during the Berlin Crisis of 1961.

Clyde loved spending time with his family and many dear neighbors and friends.

Clyde was preceded in death by his parents, George Thomas and Sadie Carter Winn, and sisters, Barbara Boling and Ann Mitchell. In addition to his wife, Carolyn, he is survived by his children, Patsy (John) Myers, of Cleveland TN, Steve (Sheryl) Winn, of Warner Robins GA, Beth (Barry) Thompson, of Lexington SC, grandchildren, Joe Myers and Ferne Myers, of Cleveland TN, Spencer, Sydney, and Seth Winn, of Warner Robins GA, Barry and Erin Thompson, of Lexington SC, sister, Judy (Ronnie) Parker, of Pensacola FL, brothers, Tommy (Joanne) Winn, of Bryson City NC, and David (Glenda) Winn, of Louin MS, along with a multitude of nieces and nephews.

A memorial service for Clyde will be held Saturday, October 15th, at 2:00 P.M. at Chapelwood United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Flowers are accepted or memorials may be made in Clyde's name to Chapelwood United Methodist Church.
