CLYDE DAVID NOLAN (12/17/28 – 11/4/18)
“Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong. Do everything in love.”
(1 Corinthians 16:13-14)
Clyde D. Nolan of Watkinsville, GA, died on Sunday, November 4, 2018. He is survived by his daughters Lisa K. Nolan and Lydia N. Davis of Watkinsville; daughter-in-law Deanna C. Nolan of Hiram; sister Virginia N. Burkhalter of Orlando, FL, her son and his wife, Dr. and Mrs. William N. Burkhalter of Orlando, FL; sister-in-law Patsy Nolan of Barrington, RI, and her daughters and husbands, Jane and Barry Morris of Louisville, KY, and Marie and Tony Marino of Cranston, RI. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Betty, son Patrick and parents Virgil and Mabel.
Clyde was born in 1928, in Rome, Georgia where he spent most of his youth. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve and was called to active duty during the Korean Conflict. On March 17, 1951 he married Betty Case Nolan (deceased 2004) of Rome, GA and raised three children: Lisa, Patrick (Paddy) David (deceased 2010), and Lydia (Ginny) Nolan Davis.
Over the course of his career, Clyde was employed by Southern Bell Telephone Company (later, Bellsouth), starting his career as a telephone lineman. During the early years the family resided in various locations within Georgia including Rome, Smyrna, Tucker, Acworth, Lilburn, Valdosta and Stone Mountain, meeting and making many wonderful friends and colleagues along the way. Contemplating an early retirement from BellSouth, Clyde and Betty purchased a farm in Jeptha, near Comer, GA, where they lovingly remodeled the farm house, which captured their hearts and imaginations. Following Clyde’s retirement, they relocated to Jeptha, living in their beautifully remodeled, but ‘work still-in-progress’ home. During retirement, Clyde and Betty were active members of Comer and Vineyard Creek Baptist Churches, the latter of which Clyde served as a deacon. Prior to Betty’s death in 2004, Clyde and Betty briefly lived with their daughter Ginny and her husband in Florida, and about a year after Betty’s death, Clyde sold their farm and moved to Ames, Iowa to be with his daughter Lisa. While there, he became a devoted member of Heartland Baptist Church. After enjoying Midwest living for several years, Clyde and Lisa returned home to their beloved Georgia, where they were joined by his daughter, Ginny.
Clyde was a devoted disciple of Jesus Christ, which showed in the way he loved, led and forgave. It is because of his obedience to His Lord that we have confidence that we will be reunited with him again in the glory of our, Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
