Clyde Kenneth Griffeth, 76, husband of Jackie Griffeth, died Sunday, November 3, 2013.
A native of Danielsville, he was the son of the late John Will Griffeth and Bonnie Clyde Kesler Griffeth. In addition to his parents, Kenneth was preceded in death by brothers: Joe Griffeth, Charles Griffeth, Will Griffeth, Phil Griffeth and one sister: Martha Garrison.
Kenneth served his country in the US Army Reserves for four years and was a lifelong member of Moon's Grove Baptist Church. In 1956, Mr Griffeth, alongside his brothers Will and Phil, founded Griffeth Bros Recapping in downtown Danielsville; they later moved to Athens and changed the name to Griffeth Bros Tire Co. Located on Hancock Ave., they conducted business in that location for over 20 years. The business then relocated to Atlanta Hwy and then to the current location on Mitchell's Bridge Rd as University Tire. Kenneth retired from the family business in 1998.
After retirement, Kenneth concentrated on cutting his grass, walking two miles twice a day and then in 2000 his first granddaughter was born and all attention was diverted towards the needs and mostly wants of those two beautiful girls! Even as his health declined Mr. Griffeth remained focused on his family. With the love and devotion of his wife and children, Kenneth was able to remain in his beloved home until his death.
In addition to his wife of 50 years, survivors include his daughters and sons in law: Amy (Jeff) Bray of Athens, Tressa (Tim) Powell of Colbert; sister: Sarah Jordan of Covington; grandchildren: Mary Paige Powell and Addie Powell. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at 2PM at Moon's Grove Baptist Church with Pastor Tom Dial and Rev. Dan Fuller officiating. Pallbearers will be nephews and honorary pallbearers will be longtime employees of Griffeth Brothers Tire Company. Burial will follow at Moon's Grove Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 at the funeral home on Tuesday, November 5, 2013.
The family wishes to express a special thanks to his caregivers: Ida Campbell, Leverne Brown, Z-Dell ball, Deborah Echols and Tavoyia Marnell.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Moon's Grove Baptist Church.
