On Friday, August 26, 2022, Cliveous Reginald Ogg, III (Reggie) passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family and loved ones. Reggie was born on August 22, 1947 in Fairborn, Ohio, and was preceded in death by his parents, Cliveous Reginald Ogg, Jr. and Bettie Ogg. Reggie attended high school in Beavercreek, Ohio and later received a degree in social work from Wright State University in Dayton.
In 1974 Reggie had the great good fortune to meet Sherry Jones, who would become his greatest supporter and partner in crime for the next 47 years. The couple spent their first six years of marriage living and working in Grand Forks, ND where Reggie worked as a master electrician. In 1981 they, along with their two young daughters, Rachel and Amanda, moved to Athens, GA so Reggie could pursue his dream of becoming a veterinarian.
Not long after, fate intervened when a close friend asked Reggie to build him a house. This experience launched his career as a successful builder and real estate developer, work he would continue for the next thirty years.
Over the years, Reggie worked diligently to build his life around the Christian principles he held dear. He developed a profound understanding of God’s love and grace for him and strove to show that same love to others. He has touched the lives of countless people, mentoring them in their personal lives, their work, and in their walk with the Lord. Reggie was active in the church where he taught children’s Sunday school classes, chaperoned youth ski trips, and went on missions trips building schools and churches.
Reggie is best known to family and friends for his mischievous sense of humor, his deep abiding love for animals, and for his devotion to his family. Always quick with a joke, Reggie was convinced that humor was the answer to most any situation, as many of his friends and colleagues can attest. He was an avid prankster and stories of his antics abound.
Reggie leaves a legacy of generous philanthropic support, with much time and energy devoted to the causes of animal welfare, environmental preservation, and the care of women and children in need.
Reggie was an avid reader who loved woodworking, spending time outdoors, and playing with the family’s many dogs. He was a beloved member of St. Thomas Anglican Church and his longtime men’s Bible study group.
Reggie’s beautiful life will be cherished by his wife, Sherry; his daughters, Rachel Ogg and Amanda Cooke; and his brother, Brad Ogg.
A celebration of Reggie’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 17, 2022 at Nations Church in Athens, GA. Father Daniel Adkinson of St. Thomas Anglican Church will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Athens Area Humane Society or to the It Takes a Village Charity Foundation in Byron, GA.
