Athens - Claudia Crusselle Buckingham of 801 Riverhill Drive, Lanier Gardens, Athens, GA, formerly of Rutledge, GA, died June 15, 2006.
She was the daughter of the late Richard Barnes Crusselle and Mildred Smith Crusselle and the widow of Melvin G. Buckingham. A retired Director of Christian Education of the United Methodist Church, she graduated Magna Cum Laude from Scarritt Methodist College in Nashville, Tennessee, and was valedictorian of her senior class. During her career, she served churches in Virginia and the Washington, DC area. She and her husband owned and operated "Happy Hill" private preschool in McLean, VA, before retiring to Ocean City, New Jersey. While living in New Jersey, she served as administrative assistant to ministers of St. Johns Lutheran Church.
She is survived by one sister, Joanne C. Meadors of Athens, GA; nieces, Patricia M. Bozman and husband, Jim, Missy Meadors, all of Athens, Lanier and husband, Todd Barnes of Atlanta, GA; four great nieces and one great nephew.
A memorial service will be at Lanier Gardens on Monday, June 19, 2006 at 2:00 PM with Rev. David Hart officiating. Private burial will be in Ocean City, New Jersey at a later date.
