Clara Strickland Simmons, age 91, died on November 9, 2012. She was born in Madison County, Georgia and lived most of her life there. She was the daughter of the late Joe Strickland and Victoria Williamson Strickland. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Frazier Lee Simmons, infant daughter Patricia Ann Simmons, seven brothers, one sister, and one grandson. Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Simmons Rice; son-in-law, Jerrel Rice; three grandchildren, Rick Rice, Ken Rice, and Chrissy Rice Evans; seven great-grandchildren, Lindsay Rice, Brayden Rice, Madesyn Rice, Caden Rice, Zack Evans, Addy Evans, and Eli Evans; and one great-great-granddaughter, MyLeigh Grace Rice.
She and her late husband, Frazier Lee Simmons, owned and operated the "Jot Em Down" Store in the Danielsville area for around 28 years. She was still a connected member of Erastus Christian Church near Commerce, Georgia where she sang in the choir for many years. She dearly loved her church family and considered the church and friends a solid part of her life. She lived her final days at Heardmont Nursing Home in Elberton, Georgia. She was very happy there and left behind many beloved friends, staff, and residents.
Funeral services will be held at 3PM on Sunday, November 11, 2012 at Erastus Christian Church with the Revs. Steve Parker and Tim Adams officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 to 7PM on Saturday, November 10.
