Clara Belle (Stephens) Kinney, 89, went home to be with the Lord on January 3, 2011. Born in Jackson County, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late William Hugh and Beulah (Skinner) Stephens.
Mrs. Kinney was the manager of the S&H GreenStamp Redemption Center in Athens during the 60's and 70's. Since that time she was mainly a homemaker but helped out in the family businesses.
Her husband, John William Kinney preceded her in death in 1996 after 56 years of marriage. Mrs. Kinney was also preceded in death by seven of her nine brothers and sisters. Survivors include a sister Nelle Adcock of Monroe and a brother, W.H. Stephens of Winder.
She is also survived by her two children, Phyllis (Len) Griffin of Athens, and Phil (Faye) Kinney of Watkinsville, seven grandchildren: Phillip (Amber) Griffin of Snellville, Sonja (Jonathan) Haynes of Naples Italy, Stephen (Molly) Griffin of Waxhaw, NC, Jaime (Keith) Johnson of Buckhead, Johnette (Douglas) Bennett of Jefferson, Laura (Keith) Jenkins of Jefferson, and Lindsey (Devin) Berry of Watkinsville and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services Thursday, January 6, 2011 at 11:00 AM in the chapel at Lord and Stephens, WEST. The Reverend Dan Fuller, her pastor for many years at Briarwood Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
