Athens - Chester Thomas Martin, 85, died August 3, 2005.
A native and lifelong resident of Oconee County, he was a son of the late Willie and Lessie Brooks Martin, and the widower of Myrtle Savage Martin. He was retired from Wellington Puritan Mill and was a member of Mars Hill Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by two brothers, James F. Martin and Howard Martin, and two sisters, Cora Westfall and Juanita Hurt.
Funeral services will be Friday, August 5, 2005, at 2 p.m. at Mars Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Charles Jones officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Don Pursley, Tommy Smith, John Martin, Jimmy Martin, Johnny Savage, and Marty Hurt.
Honorary pallbearers will be employees of Smithís Cabinet Shop and Smithís Fine Finish.
Survivors include his daughter, Hazel Martin Smith and husband, Eugene, of Oconee County; four sisters, Sara Ryder of Athens, Myrtle Young of Augusta, Willie Mae Shackleford and Geneva Laws, both of Daytona Beach, FL; grandchildren, Randy and Denise Smith, Mickey and Karen Smith, Todd and Melissa Smith; great grandchildren, Brandon, Ashley, Bonnie, Francis, Tiffani, Chelsea, Rebecca, Ryan, Brooke, Emily, Jessica, Amanda, Sarah, and Kathryn.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home, with members of the Oconee and Clarke County Fire Department Honor Guards present for visitation.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mars Hill Baptist Church Building Fund.
