Charlie Franklin Waters

Charlie Franklin Waters, 77, died December 16, 2024. 

A native of Gainesville, GA, he was a son of the late Henry LaFayette Waters of Gainesville and Naomi (Jimmy) Archer Waters of Athens. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Terry Waters of Athens. 

Charlie grew up in Athens then was a building contractor for commercial, residential and restoration projects all of his adult life. He began with Evans & Mitchell in Athens; then Piedmont Construction Co. in Atlanta. In 1976, he began his own company in Waynesboro, GA for twenty-five years and then continued his work in and around Clarkesville, GA for another twenty-six years.  

Charlie loved life, family and friends. He enjoyed hunting and golfing with close friends and cooking out with family and friends. He also was an avid UGA Bulldogs fan! He was a member of Waynesboro Masonic Lodge #274, Waynesboro Shrine Club and held office as President in 1986. He was also active in The Shriner’s Alee Temple of Savannah, GA. 

A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, December 27, 2024 at 2:00pm at the chapel of Lord and Stephens Funeral Home, WEST. The family will receive friends for one hour before the service.  

Survivors include his wife of fifty-five years, Lavida Sosebee Waters; daughter, Paige Waters (Chris) Bennett of Gainesville; son, Andy W. (Meredith) Waters of Statesboro; grandchildren, Shelly Bennett of Columbia, SC, Ava Waters, Charlie A. Waters and Tess Waters, all of Statesboro; sister, Lisa Waters of Ft. Myers, FL; many cousins.
