Charlie A. Royston Jr., 83, of Athens, husband of Linnie J. Tolbert Royston, died on Saturday, August 18, 2012.
Born in Gainesville, he was the son of the late Charlie A. Royston Sr. and Willie Mae Gann Royston. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Florrie Anne Royston Brown.
He was raised in Augusta and Royston, graduated from Athens High, received an associate's degree from Georgia Tech, and was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He was also the owner of Royston Inc. and, upon retirement, began a second career as a popular folk artist.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his daughters and son-in-law, Terry Ann Royston Ravan, of Smyrna, and Cindy Lee Royston Arneman and Tom, of Charleston, S.C.; granddaughter, Brandy Lynn Ravan; and great-granddaughters, Madison Lee Ravan and Katherine Anne Ravan.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, August 21, at Royston Cemetery, in Royston, with Chaplain Bill Hayes officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army Children's Summer Camp Program.
