Winterville - Charlie J. Hayes Sr., 93, died May 21, 2009.
A native and lifelong resident of Oglethorpe County, he was a son of the late Charles Holman Hayes and Leila Martin Hayes Hemphill and was the widower of Marjorie Culver Hayes. He retired from General Time and was a member of Winterville Baptist Church for over forty years and the Pope Spratlin Sunday School Class.
Funeral services will be Saturday, May 23, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the chapel of Lord and Stephens, EAST, with Rev. Shane Moore officiating. Interment will be in Athens Memory Gardens.
Survivors include two sons, Charlie J. Hayes Jr. and wife, Charlene, of Fayetteville, Ga., and Terrell Hayes and wife, Sharon, of Winterville; sister, Eileen Forbes of Stephens; grandchildren, Angelia and Brian Clark, Kimberley Hayes, Amy and Shane Moore and Lori and Scott Cochran; six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Blayne Spratlin, David Ferguson, Mark Shealy, Russell Faulkner, Steve Pilcher, Stacey Spratlin and Scott Harshbarger.
The family will receive friends Friday from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. at the funeral home and Saturday for one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Winterville First Baptist Church, 305 N. Church St., Winterville, GA 30683.
Lord and Stephens, EAST, is in charge of arrangements.
