Athens, GA - Charles Ross Burkhalter, Sr., 72, died Friday, May 28, 2010.
Born in Oconee County and a native of Athens, he was a self employed business owner of Burkhalter Trenching and Boring. He was a retired race car driver and avid sportsman.
Mr. Burkhalter was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. George David Burkhalter. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Wanda Dale Burkhalter, 5 brothers, Ellis, James, George David Jr., Hubert and Donnie and 4 sisters, Kate and Sue Meeler, Sandra Mobley and Helen Hix.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Burkhalter; daughter and son in law, Rita and Buck Alewine; son and daughter in law, Charles, Jr. and Dixie Burkhalter; son and daughter in law, George and Vickie Burkhalter; son and daughter in law, Jeff and Donna Burkhalter; son and daughter in law, Rex and Stacey Burkhalter; daughter and son in law, Beckey and Randy Jones; daughter, Carol Lyle and her friend, John; 15 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; 4 brothers, Ben, Eugene, Mack and Tony Burkhalter; 3 sisters, Thelma Ross, Junita Hinson and Burnice Martin.
Funeral services will be Sunday, May 30, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Lord and Stephens Chapel, EAST with Revs. Larry Dyer, Randy Crowe and Ronnie Healan officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Ross Burkhalter, Josh Burkhalter, Brent Burkhalter, Blake Jones, Nick Burkhalter, Ethan Burkhalter,Douglas Burkhalter, Camron Lyle and Mitch Alewine.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 6:00 until 9:00 PM.
Lord and Stephens, EAST is in charge of arrangements.
