With heavy hearts, we announce the death of “Charlie” Charles H. Whitehead, 88, of Bogart, GA passed away on March 12, 2023, after a battle with colon cancer.
He was the son of the late Bill and Kathleen Whitehead. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Jo Whitehead and brother, William “W. R.” Whitehead.
Charlie is survived by his children David Whitehead and Annette (Calvin) Loggins and his beloved grandson Justin Whitehead, and nieces and nephews.
Charlie was born on February 15, 1935, in Athens, GA. He resided in Clarke and Oconee County, GA his entire life. In his younger years, he was an avid deer and turkey hunter. He also enjoyed go-cart racing at several dirt racetracks. He took joy in planting big gardens. He and his father-in-law owned Cut-Rite Grocery on Atlanta Hwy., which he later transformed into Charlies Lawnmower Shop that he operated for over 34 years. After closing the lawnmower shop, he then worked and retired from Oconee County Road Department. Charlie never met a stranger he was very blessed to have many friends and was a good friend to all.
Honorary pallbearers include Tick Tankersley, Charles Bramblett, Randall Barnett, Bill Strickland, Charlie Compton, Donnie Seagraves, Charles Osborn, Lamar Fuller.
A funeral service honoring Charlie’s life will be held on Thursday, March 16, 2023, at 2:00 PM at the chapel of Lord and Stephens Funeral Home, WEST, Watkinsville, GA. The family will receive friends, from 12:00 to 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.
