Charles "Buddy" Richmond Crawford, Jr.

Charles “Buddy” Richmond Crawford, Jr, 94, husband of the late Mary Ann Bost Crawford died on July 16, 2023.  Born in Lexington, GA on March 22, 1929, he was the son of the late Charles Richmond Crawford, Sr and Kathleen Margaret Bailey Crawford.
Mr. Crawford is survived by two daughters, Leslie Ann Crawford Hately of Anchorage, AK and Kimberly Katherine Crawford of Atlanta, GA, and 9 nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann Bost Crawford in 2010 and three sisters, Minette Crawford of Lexington, GA; Anne Gower of Thomaston, GA; and Kitty DuVernet of Albany, GA.
Charles graduated from UGA in 1950 with a business degree in Management.  He had several careers, but the two most notable ones were Investment Broker (15 years) and Solid Waste Disposal Manager for Clarke County (15 years). His favorite quote was “I went from Wall Street to the garbage heap!” He was known for his deprecating sense of humor with nicknames and teasing for any and all. He was also favorably known for his annual tomato crop which he shared with neighbors and friends.
In his younger life, he served in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict and later enjoyed, golf, boating, scuba diving, and obtained a private pilot’s license.  He was a long-time member of Lexington Baptist Church as a deacon.  He was also noted for his involvement in community affairs such as 20 plus years on the Lexington City Council, Oglethorpe County Rotary Club, NEGA Regional Commission, NEGA Regional Authority, Historic Oglethorpe, Arts Oglethorpe and Legends of Oglethorpe.
A memorial service will be held at the Lexington Baptist Church on Wednesday, July 26 with visitation at 1 PM and the service at 2 PM. Pastor Matt Bartlett will be officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
