Charles Pettigrew

Charles Pettigrew died suddenly Tuesday night of an abdominal aortic aneurysm in the Watkinsville home of his parents Claude Owen and Jean Melnora Pettigrew, where he had been providing supportive care for them in their old age. He was preceded in death by his youngest brother, Ronald Ray and two nephews. He is survived by his parents, his brother Richard Daryl Pettigrew and sister Claudia Jean Bailey, both of Watkinsville, along with their extended families.
Charles was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado, attended Whitworth College in Spokane, Washington, and later graduated from the University of Washington in 1972. Between the years of his secondary education, Charles served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Constellation during the Viet Nam war. Charles was blessed of the Lord with a rich mind and abundant artistic talents which he displayed in paintings, inventing, writing, graphic arts design and vocal music. He became an industrious advocate for animal rescue and helped establish the pet rescue organization Pets-to-be. His passion in the final 14 years of life was singing with the Athens Master Chorale and promoting its concerts through his graphic arts business. Charles was an accomplished athlete in multiple sports and a lifelong avid sports fan.
Services for Charles will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 29, 2012 at Grace Fellowship, 1120 Malcolm Bridge Road, Bogart GA 30622. Interment will follow in the Georgia Veterans Cemetery in Milledgeville, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the Athens Master Chorale, 495 Belmont Road, Athens, GA 30605.
