Colbert - Charles M. McCarty, age 67, husband of Martha Hanley McCarty, died Saturday, December 27, 2008 at Athens Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at 11AM at Colbert First Baptist Church with Rev. Brad Wilson, Rev. Jim Haralson & Rev. Clarke Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Colbert Cemetery. Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
Born in Madison County, he was the son of the late Benjamin B. and Montez Herring McCarty. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Josephine Fowler and brother, Jimmy McCarty. Charles retired from the Olympic Drive United States Post Office after 39 years. He was a member of Colbert First Baptist Church and served his county in the US Coast Guard Reserve.
In addition to his wife, survivors include sons, Scott (Angela) McCarty of Colbert, Greg Smith of Anderson, S.C.; brother, Billy McCarty of Colbert; sisters, Annie Kile of Warner Robins, Mary Davis of Dallas, Texas, Janie Jones of Danielsville, Polly Fowler of Concord, N.C., Bonnie Parten of Colbert; grandchildren, Eli and Hyes McCarty.
Visitation will be held tonight, December 29, 2008 from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Shepherd Spinal Center, 2020 Peachtree Road NW, Atlanta, GA 30309.
Lord & Stephens, Danielsville, is in charge of arrangements.
