Charles "Chuck" Wendall Jay, Jr., 63, died Wednesday, July 4, 2012.
Chuck attended Osborn High School in Smyrna, Georgia and graduated from R.E. Lee Institute, Thomaston, Georgia in 1966. He earned a business degree at the University of Georgia in 1970 and served with the U.S. Army in Arlington, Virginia and in Germany from 1970 until 1973. He then returned and earned his MBA at the University of Utah, Salt Lake City, Utah.
During the course of his career, he worked at the Metropolitan Insurance Company Life of Virginia, and most recently, for Bristol-Myers Squibb, Mead Johnson Division for 27 years before his retirement in 2008.
After retiring, he did what he most wanted to do - travel throughout the country and see friends and family.
He is survived by his parents, Charles W. Jay, Sr. & Faye Jay; wife, Diane Burris Jay; daughter and Michael Andrew Jay, son.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, July 6, 2012 from 7 until 9 PM. Funeral services will be at Gordon's Chapel United Methodist Church, Nowhere Rd., Hull, Georgia at 2:00 PM Saturday with interment to follow in the church cemetery. He will lie in state at the church from 1 until 2 PM on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Northeast Georgia Cancer Center located at 3320 Old Jefferson Rd., Building 700, Athens, Georgia 30607.
