Charles Richard Jackson

April 10, 1927 — November 10, 2012

Charles Richard Jackson, 85 of Athens, went to be with the Lord, passing peacefully in his sleep, on November 10th, 2012. The son of Elva Franklin and Ruth E. (Somerlot) Jackson, he was born in Iberia Ohio on April 10, 1927. Raised in Martel, Ohio, he dutifully joined the United States Army in 1947 and served in Alaska. He married Mary Louise Blaising on September 29th, 1951 and was employed with Whirlpool. After retiring from Whirlpool, he moved his family to Athens, Georgia in the late 1970s and was employed with the City of Athens Water Department. Retiring again, he continued to work part time for the City of Athens and Athens-Clarke County. He worked for the Downtown Athens Parking System until his 85th birthday on April 10th, 2012.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Jackson was preceded in death by his brothers Bruce, Bob, Jim, and his sisters Margaret and Katherine. He is survived by his wife Mary of 61 years, his sons Brian Jackson (Stanton, CA.), Craig Jackson (Alma) (Athens, GA.), daughter Valerie Lynn Argo (Philip) (Lexington, GA) and grandsons Daniel Argo, David Argo, and Shane Argo, his sister Jackie Danner (Morral, OH.), and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Jackson loved life and never met a stranger. He delighted everyone he met with his poetry, loved to sing and would treat anyone to his favorites, especially at Christmas.
The family would like to thank everyone at St. Mary's Hospice for their wonderful care of Mr. Jackson and his family, and would like any memorials in his memory to be made to them.
A private memorial for Mr. Jackson will be held at a later date.
Lord and Stephens, East is in charge of arrangements.
