Charles R. Hughes, 73, died July 15, 2006.
Born in Marion, NC, he was the son of the late Fuce and Mildred Cooper Hughes. A former resident of Orlando, FL, he was an elder for many years in the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran and was retired manager for Suddath Van Lines. Mr. Hughes has made his home in Athens for the past 13 years and attended Athens First United Methodist Church.
Memorial services will be Tuesday, July 18, 2006 at 3:00 PM at Athens First United Methodist Church Chapel. Revs. Grady Wigley and Charles Hughes, Jr. will officiate. Interment will be private.
Survivors include his wife Jo Hughes; children, Rev. Charles Hughes, Jr. (Dale) and Beth Mahoney (Dr. Ormonde); grandchildren, Charles Hughes III, Samuel H. Hughes, Maggie Haden, William Mahoney, Peggy Mahoney, Houston Mahoney and Joseph Mahoney; 1 half sister and 5 half brothers.
The family will receive friends at the residence of Dr. Ormonde and Beth Mahoney, 1081 Shoals Drive, Athens, GA, 30606, Monday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.
Lord and Stephens, WEST is in charge of arrangements.
