Obituary for Charles F. Hicks
Charles F. Hicks, 85, died on January 17, 2018 in Athens, Georgia. Born in Allendale, S.C. on February 5th 1932, he was the son of James Young Hicks and Alice Eulalia Hicks of Charleston, S.C.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Barbara L. Hicks. Also surviving are his children Claude, Bryan, MaryAnn, and Carole, their spouses, 7 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, siblings Dolores Manning and Marie Inabinett, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Ruth Hicks, James R. Hicks, Johnnie Lou Lay, Margaret Amey, Hazel Mills, Jack Hicks Sr., and Marian Widner,
He was a talented pianist, Choir director and Sunday school teacher. He served honorably for 25 years as a decorated officer and pilot in the United States Air Force. Among his many military accomplishments was his service in Vietnam Nam. He served as Mayor of Lake Lure, N.C. for 7 Years, was on numerous boards, and was a proud member of the VFW.
Visitation will be held on Saturday January 20, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. followed by funeral services at 3:00 p.m. Both will be held at Lord and Stephens Funeral Home 1211 Jimmy Daniels Road Bogart, Georgia. Burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery, Atlanta Hwy. Athens, Georgia.
Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to a cancer prevention charity or the Chimney Rock Baptist Church 270 Boys Camp Rd. Lake Lure, NC 28746.
