Charles Polk Dickens, 82, husband of 61 years to Linda Barrett Dickens, died on Sunday, October 27, 2024. Born in Athens, GA, he was the son of the late A.P. Dickens and Mary Parsons Dickens. Charles was a lifelong resident of Oconee County, he graduated from Oconee County High School and the University of Georgia in 1965 with a degree in Agricultural Science. For 25 years, Charles worked as a poultry farmer and for more than 50 years, he worked as a livestock auctioneer mainly at Duvall Livestock Market, Mid-Georgia Livestock Market (Jackson, GA), Franklin County Livestock Market, the former Palmetto Livestock in Anderson, SC, along with several other livestock auction barns throughout Northeast Georgia. Charles was a faithful and lifelong member of Union Christian Church where he served as an Honorary Elder. He was an avid supporter of the University of Georgia and Oconee County athletics, but most of all he loved supporting his children, especially his grandchildren in all of their high school and college athletic events. Charles loved being outdoors including working in his barn, riding his tractor, and taking trips to the mountains with his beloved wife. Survivors in addition to his wife include three sons: Brian (Sherry) Dickens, Brad (Roslyn) Dickens and Brent Dickens and seven grandchildren: Brianna Dickens, Maura Grace Dickens, Anderson Ruffner, Cason Ruffner, Jaxson Ruffner, Chip Dickens and Drew Dickens. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 31, 2024 at 11AM at Union Christian Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6PM until 8PM on Wednesday, October 30, 2024 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Union Christian Church.
