Cecil Sorrow, 87, of Auburn, Georgia, passed away at home on September 24th, 2023 with his faithful companion, Sam, lying in the bed beside him.
He was the son of Floyd Thomas and Alma Chambers Sorrow. He was born and raised in Oglethorpe County Georgia. He received an associate degree from Tennessee Temple University in Chattanooga, Tennessee and was an Airforce Veteran serving in Guam.
He was preceded in in death by his wife, Ola Christopher Sorrow and brother, Bill Sorrow of Commerce, GA. He is survived by three children: Patty (Johney) Friar of Auburn, Matt (Rhonda) Sorrow of Arnoldsville, and Mark (Hilda) Sorrow of Athens. Grandchildren: Thomas (Kendall) Sorrow of Demorest, and Eli (Lauren) Sorrow of Dahlonega. Great granddaughter, Emerson Marie Sorrow, of Demorest.
He lived in Athens for many years and was a long-time member of East Athens Baptist Church where he served over the years as deacon, Sunday school director and was an assistant Sunday school teacher. He retired from ABB – Westinghouse in 1995 where he worked as a computer programmer.
He loved camping, fishing, gardening and taking vacations to Washington D.C. with his family over the years. In his later years he loved watching war documentaries and old movies and loving on his faithful companion Sam who loved him dearly and protected him with every fiber of his being.
Visitation will be at Lord and Stephens East from 2:00-3:00pm on Tuesday, September 26th with a graveside service at 3:30pm at the Winterville Cemetery with Liam Hardy officiating.
