Cecil Parks Betts

Mr. Cecil Parks Betts, 87, passed away March 2, 2021 after a brief illness. Mr. Betts was a Clarke County native and proudly served in the U.S. Navy for four years. He also worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier in the Athens area for over 34 years.  In his free time he owned and operated a tree service and enjoyed working outdoors. Mr. Betts was the son of George Henry Betts and the former Ina Lavender. He was married to Frances Celestia (Sis) Adams Betts for 53 years. Together they had one son, Russell Parks (Rusty) Betts, and two daughters: Janice E. Oldham and Beverly L. Busbin.  A sister and brother-in-law, Joann and Toombs Hardin of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Grandsons Chris Oldham, Chad and Ian Wood, Joshua Busbin and numerous nieces and nephews survive. A special thanks to his nephew Mark Betts and family friend Jonathan Fleeman. Cecil was especially fond of the family cat, Baby, whom he greatly loved.

In addition to his parents Mr. Betts is preceded in death by his wife Celestia Adams Betts, a brother George Betts, sister Sara Betts Brewer, sister Grace Betts Bradberry, and sister Eunice Betts. A graveside service for immediate family and close friends will be held at Evergreen Memorial Park at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 4th, 2021.
