Catherine Linda Sweeney

Catherine Linda Sweeney, born October 21, 1947, passed away peacefully on December 20, 2022 surrounded by her family. Cathy was born in New York and lived in New Jersey until 1991, when she and her adoring husband of 54 years, Rich, moved to Atlanta.  In 1997 they had an opportunity to move to California where they lived for over 10 years before moving first to Charlotte, NC and finally settling in Statham, Ga.

Cathy and Rich loved to travel, together they spent at least once a year in their favorite place in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico where the family has many wonderful memories and friends. They were also avid travelers on cruises where they saw the world. Their most treasured trips being to Bora Bora, Portugal, Ireland, Scotland and more. There always seemed to be a place to go.

Cathy was a fierce, independent woman who was admired and loved by many. Her drive helped see her move her way through the ranks in the Brokerage industry from starting as a cashier in the early part of her career to retiring as Senior Managing Director for First Republic Bank.  She was a leader to many but more importantly, a mentor and friend. She was known to many for her strong sense of helping others, especially those in need.

Cathy is survived by her husband of 54 years, Richard Sweeney; daughter Kelli Boswell (Bill); son Doug Sweeney (Carla); her grandchildren Colin Boswell and Delaney Boswell; sister-in-law Marie Fox, brother-in-law James Cosmano; and cousin/little sister Katherine Gagliardi. Cathy also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents Phillip and Agnes Fox; Brothers Phillip (Red Phil) Fox, Phil Fox, James Fox; and sisters Joan Ciccolella, Lorraine Castro and Alice Cosmano.

The family would like to thank the many doctors, nurses, aides and technicians at Piedmont Athens Regional during her stay there. Also, all the nurses from Compassionate Care Hospice and aides from When Kindness Means More.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, December 28 at Lord and Stephens, West at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends at the funeral home the evening before, Tuesday, December 27 from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. and for two hours prior to the service on Wednesday morning from 9:00 until 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or the Gary Sinise Foundation.
