After a long and joyful life, Carroll Pilgrim Tyner, born Nancy Carroll Pilgrim, in Carrollton, Georgia, June 27, 1934, passed peacefully on Saturday morning, February 6, 2016. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard Paul Pilgrim and Martha McMichen Pilgrim, and two brothers, Leonard Paul Pilgrim, Jr. and Douglas Anthony Pilgrim.
Carroll attended Douglas County High School. She also attended nursing school at Georgia Baptist for one term before leaving to join Sears Roebuck Company, where she met husband Wilbur.
Carroll always listed her occupation as a homemaker, yet she served 25 years as a leader in the Girl Scouts of America in both the Nation's Capital Council and the Greater Rochester Genesee Council.
She was a devoted wife, who established loving and beautiful homes for her family in every community that her husband Will had earned a transfer by Kodak. Carroll and Will started their life together in 1954 in Atlanta, and lived in Doraville, Chamblee, Vienna, Virginia, Fairport and Pittsford, New York, North Tustin, California, Homosassa, Florida, and Athens, Georgia.
Her family remembers her as the most generous and detail oriented person. Her exceptional talents included sewing, quilting, painting, and golf. Carroll was a golfing member at Locust Till Country Club in Rochester New York, Southern Woods Country Club in Florida, and the Georgia Club in Athens Georgia.
A lifelong follower of Jesus Christ, Carroll is a member of Central Presbyterian Church in Athens.
Survived by loving husband Wilbur Willis Tyner; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kimberly and Wayne Peacock, Patricia "Trish" and John Secor; four grandchildren, Emma and Nathan Peacock, William Royce Secor, and Whitney Secor Ayers and husband Scott Ayers; siblings, Jimmie Wayne Pilgrim and Phyllis Daniell. Her family is extremely grateful for the steadfast prayers, sympathies, and support over the years.
Everyone Carroll encountered knows of her gentleness, creativity and compassion - those she is survived by are blessed to find those same traits reflected in us. There will be mourning, but we will choose to see our lives ahead as an opportunity to celebrate hers.
For those who want to join us in remembering Carroll's life, a service will be held at Lord and Stephens West, Watkinsville, Georgia, on February 20 at 2:30PM (with visitation at 1PM).
