Carrol Gene Thomas, 92, of Athens passed away on Tuesday, March 1, 2022. Born on April 7, 1929, he was the son of the late Doctor Grady Thomas and Pallie Doster Thomas.

Gene was a long-time member of Bethabara Baptist Church. He enjoyed gardening and spent many of his earlier years farming, later on developing a passion for going to yard sales.

In addition to his parents, he was proceeded in death by his wife, Helen Garrett Thomas; and 6 siblings.

Survivors include his children, Donnie Thomas (Martha), Connie Newberry (Harvey); grandchildren, Kerry McElcory (Chris), Liz James (Jeff), Alana Cochran (CJ); great grandchildren, Alexis McElcory, Tommy James, Violet James, Charlotte Cochran, Nora Cochran; brother, Bill Thomas; many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 2, 2022 at 2:00 pm in the chapel of Lord & Stephens, West, Watkinsville with Pastor Rob Bray officiating. The family will receive friend prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:00 pm. Interment will be private at Bethabara Baptist Church Cemetery.
