Carolyne Mace Williams peacefully passed away in her home surrounded by family at the age of 85, on Saturday, December 22. Carolyne was born in Marion, South Carolina on February 20, 1927 to Neal Marion Mace and Susie Margaret Hall. She moved to Cordele, Georgia her senior year in high school, and met the love of her life John. Married on her Birthday, she enjoyed a 61 year marriage that included traveling the world, community service, and raising three children.
Carolyne considered motherhood her primary role, and she provided a strong foundation for her family and community. Her support, patience, listening and caring extended to people from all walks of life. She had an active social life and was involved in many organizations such as the University of Georgia Women's club and Daughters of the American Revolution; and the most important organization to her was her church. She was an outstanding witness for her faith and taught her Christian faith abroad on several mission trips. She had an uncanny ability to make you smile and feel special.
Carolyne loved fashion and shined as an example of how to live with elegance and grace. She had the opportunity to travel extensively, even moving with her family to Sweden for a time. Throughout her travels she was a collector. Her home was filled with interesting mementos and stories from all over the world. A joyous spirit who loved dancing, her home was also filled with the sounds of laughter and music. Christmas was her favorite holiday, and the whole family would gather and enjoy her elaborate meals and Swedish decorations. There was always an abundance of Angels, her favorite decoration, and chocolate, her favorite food.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother Neal Marion Mace Jr. She is survived by her children Carol Golemme (Joe), David and Mace (Julie) Williams, and her grandchildren Laura (Jeremy), Stephen, Caroline (Troy), Susan, David, and Matthew, as well as her great grandchildren Tanner and Gavin. She is also survived by her two sisters, Suzanne (Jim) Page and Sandra Bell.
