Watkinsville

Carolyn Jones Winn, 82, of Watkinsville, passed away on Tuesday, November 27, 2018.

The daughter of the late Thomas E. Jones and Ferne S. Jones, Carolyn was born in Rock Hill, SC, on October 6, 1936. She graduated from Rock Hill High School, South Carolina in 1954 and married her love, Clyde Winn in September of that year. Her goal in life was to be a good wife and mother and most definitely succeeded. Her family always came first and she cared for her Father, Mother and husband until each of their deaths. Clyde's job with Woolworth Stores required many moves and she organized each move and set-up many houses in support of him. Working with children was important to her and she worked and volunteered in many schools and church day cares as they moved around. In Columbia, SC she managed a private daycare facility. Her last job was with Athens-Clarke County schools as a teacher's aide at Fowler Drive Elementary where she retired. She was a longtime member of Chapelwood United Methodist Church and the Homick Sunday school class in Athens, GA. Her church and class were very important to her.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde C. Winn, two brothers: John L. Jones and Thomas Jones, and a sister, Helen J. Barron.

She is survived by her children, Patsy (John) Myers, of Cleveland TN, Steve (Sheryl) Winn, of Warner Robins GA, Beth (Barry) Thompson, of Lexington SC; grandchildren, Joe Myers and Ferne Myers, of Cleveland TN, Spencer, Sydney, and Seth Winn, of Warner Robins GA, Barry and Erin Thompson, of Lexington SC; sister, Elizabeth J. Murphy of Orangeburg, SC. Along with numerous nieces and nephews, Carolyn is also survived by Johnny and Lynn Savage and family who she loved dearly.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 1, at 2:00 P.M. at Chapelwood United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Flowers are accepted or memorials may be made in Carolyn’s name to Chapelwood United Methodist Church.
